
ANNA MALEK CONDUCTOR
BIOGRAPHY

Anna Malek is a highly versatile conductor with a broad repertoire and extensive experience in both opera and the concert repertoire. Until 2024, she worked as a conductor (Kapellmeister) at the Augsburg State Theatre and most recently as musical assistant to Joana Mallwitz at the Konzerthaus Berlin and to Vladimir Jurowski with the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin.
She made her conducting debut at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden in December 2021 with Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte. She had already made her very first professional opera debut with the same work at the Theater Lüneburg in 2015 and conducted several performances at the Stadttheater Bremerhaven in the following years. In Augsburg, she conducted Lucia di Lammermoor, The Fairy Queen, Il viaggio a Reims, Orfeo ed Euridice and a world premiere by Hauke Berheide, among others. She has also been responsible for numerous symphonic and contemporary music programmes.
Engagements as a solo répétiteur took Anna Malek to the Staatstheater Darmstadt and the Nationaltheater Mannheim before she was appointed Deputy Chorus Master at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden in 2018. She has worked with the Bachchor Salzburg and the Rundfunkchor Berlin on several occasions. In 2019, she led the choir rehearsals for Shostakovich’s 13th Symphony with the Rundfunkchor Berlin under the baton of Ingo Metzmacher and assisted with Verdi’s Quattro pezzi sacri under Daniel Barenboim. In 2022, she was responsible for the choir rehearsals for Schnittke’s Second Symphony at the International Bruckner Festival in Linz under the direction of Markus Poschner. Other musical personalities she has worked with include Christoph von Dohnányi, Zubin Mehta and Stefan Soltesz.
Anna Malek studied vocal pedagogy and choral conducting at the Mozarteum University Salzburg and orchestral conducting at the Hamburg University of Music and Theatre. From 2020 to 2022, she furthered her studies at the International Conducting Academy of the University of the Arts Berlin in the Advanced Professional Training for Conductors programme. She was a scholarship holder of the Oscar and Vera Ritter Foundation and has won several composition competitions, underscoring her particular interest in contemporary music.
